Tork Weightlifting Meet

So I went in to this weightlifting meet being able to count on one hand the number of times I have done anything over 80% with the Olympic lifts in the last 4 months since regional's. I did not really want to cut weight to make the 94kg class so I just went in light around 97kg in <105kg weight class. I made the decision at weight in to open at 105/135 for snatch and C&J respectively.

The snatch - My best snatch is 120 and my best competition snatch is 117. I really felt going into this that my snatch was going to be pretty dismal due to lack of recent exposure. After warming up a bit a feeling quite good, i bumped my opening weight to 110.

1st snatch attempt - 110kg. nailed it, everything was darn near perfect.

2nd snatch attempt - 115kg. Felt like this one should have went just as easy. Got a little bit lazy in the second pull and didn't quite finish. After looking at the video, I still got under the weight but I think the shitty second pull psyched me out a bit and I just didn't receive the bar all that well.

3rd snatch attempt - 115kg. Almost made the decision to move up to 120kg regardless of the missed attempt but stuck with 115 to be safe. Nailed 115 just as well as I did 110. My buddy cory who coached my through the lifts made the comment that I should win an award for easiest looking attempt. Felt great, wanted more!

C&J - my best C&J is 140kg which is also my best competition lift as well. I knew that my C&J would be fairly solid going into this weekend. I have not done a whole lot of C&J but I have done my fair share of cleans as well as press's and push press's. Mike has given me a new pair of triceps over the past 6 or 7 weeks and I was excited to try them out. Warm up was going well. Due to having to warm up in pounds I ended up taking a 134kg C&J prior to my first attempt at 135kg

1st C&J attempt - 135kg - even though I had already hit 134 in the back, i decided to stick with the plan of 135 to play safe. 135 went up easier then it ever had, so it was a good idea to stick with it since it gave me confidence.

2nd C&J attempt - 140kg - seeing as this was my previous PR i was super pumped when I nailed this lift as easy as I did. The clean felt somewhat heavy, but the jerk felt amazing. Stability under the bar is on a whole new level for me right now. Getting under the weight has never been the issue, but maintaining the weight overhead has always been a struggle

3rd C&J attempt - 145kg - nailed this one as well and it felt just as good as the last two, after looking at the video, my footwork was a little sketchy on the jerk, but I managed to recover okay.

Good enough for a 260kg total and first place in the 105kg division, as well as the third highest total of the day behind a 105+ and a monster child who set a junior provincial record in the snatch in the 85kg division (unreal lifter!).

Things that I need to work on... I need to continue to receive the bar better in the snatch. I need to stay on my heels longer through the second pull on both snatch and C&J. And I still need some major work on my footwork with the split jerk. All in all, a good competition and learned a few things I need to improve on.
